Rolling my own (book) library management system

by dwhite20899 (Friar)
on Apr 22, 2009 at 18:06 UTC ( [id://759359]=perlquestion: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

dwhite20899 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have been looking around for FOSS to use to manage a (book) library, and searches keep bringing up Perl library information, so I'm going to ask here...

Apart from the MARC, DublinCore, Z3950 and LOC modules in CPAN, which I guess I can use to roll my own system, does anyone know of any free library management systems? They don't have to be in Perl, but that would be a plus. Any OS is okay, Linux would be a plus.

I'm sorry to toss such a general question out here, but I'm not having much success with my searches. Thanks!

Asking a FOSS using Librarian is likely to get a direct, real world tested answer.

Yes, that Evergreen package sounds like it's perfect. Thanks!

Hey. I've wanted a library managment system for a while. Preferrably one that can do any kind of thing, like books, cds, dvds, bluray, games, board games, etc. Like a home inventory system, so that i can check if i own something on my phone (my memory sucks). I recently started playing with KiokuDB + Moose and wonder if that plus Catalyst or something might make an easy, quick to build library system. Hopefully someone here has pointers to an existing projects or something.
