It is your browser which transforms '@' into '%40'. (Note the '%' comes first, followed by the number). The data has been "URL-encoded". A program such as CGI normally decodes the url-encoded paramaters back into their original form. You are using CGI (or one of its brethren) aren't you? If for whatever reason the data remains encoded, yoou can decode it with a module such as URI::Escape. CountZero A program should be light and agile, its subroutines connected like a string of pearls. The spirit and intent of the program should be retained throughout.
