You forgot about all the Inline:: modules, given them your possibilities explode into the trillions!

One of the greatest things about Perl (IMO of course) is that we have so many possibilities. Take a look at the current state of the Ruby on Rails community to see how well "One True Way" got them. There is a serious amount of fragmentation going on, why, because your way is not always good for me, and my way is not always good for you.

The key is that knowledge is shared, even if the code is not. I think it is perfectly fine to reinvent the wheel if you have looked at and studied the other wheels out there and are trying hard to learn from and not make their same mistakes. I think the Perl community, being as tight as it is, does this pretty well (although sometimes rudely).
