advait has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi All
I am trying to install a perl module but I dont have the permission to write in the directory
I get the following error:
Can't create '/usr/lib64/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/x86_64-linux-thread-multi' Do not have write permissions on '/usr/lib64/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/x86_64-linux-thread-multi'
Is there anyway I can install this library in my login/folder and use it
Thanks
Advait

Briefly you will tell "configure" to install the module in a non-default location with a different "PREFIX". You must then tell Perl to look for modules in that location, typically with a "use lib" statment or an environment variable like $PERL5LIB.

Read what pc88mxer told you to, or CPAN's directions.

Do you intend for others to use the code that you write, either locally or in their own environments? Of course they will need to have access to an installed module as well, either pointing to your installation or by installing the same module themselves.
