You may not be a great maintainer (for completely understandable reasons) but if you RECOGNISE you can't maintain your code, and provide an easy to use mechanism for people to take over your work and continue, you've behaved in a responsible manner as the original author. Any author that knows to lead, follow, or get out of the way is an excellent author.
