roybrown has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Seeking Wisdom, RTFM till my eyes spin, still lost. Could be a haiku in there...
Have successfully built Perl 5.8.5, added SOAP etc., added MQSeries, added DBI, added DBD-DB2. Oracle is killing me.
Assistance appreciated, Roy

I have found it helpful to add DBD::ODBC. This is much slower than a native Oracle driver might be, but at least it will get you connected and testing while you work at finding and using a good Oracle-native module.

    As to your haiku:

    Searched manual until eyes spun

What error messages are you seeing?

Do you have permission to access the Oracle libraries?

Have you set the environment properly (eg $ORACLE_HOME, $ORACLE_SID etc)?

Have you tried using SQL*Plus from the same account that you are installing DBD::Oracle?

The more recent releases of DBD::Oracle offer a README.hpux file.

More to the point, I got Perl 5.004xx/Oracle 716/HPUX 10.20 working by doing the static link thing described in one of the READMEs. DBD::Oracle 1.06, DBI 1.1x.

All that is lacking now is some pithy saying about old sw to sum up the situation.
