It may be worth noting that, although Larry, Tom, and/or
Randal imply in 'Programming Perl,'
Edition 2, 1996, p. 363 that they
have high hopes for Penguin
(even hinting that it might become part of the
standard Perl distribution):
- The most recent version of Penguin is dated
May, 1997.
- The FAQ and README from that release make Penguin
sound like very much a work in progress.
- There appears to have been no release addressing
the deficiencies mentioned in the brief docs that
accompany the 1997 version.
- Edition 3 of 'Programming Perl' completely
reshuffles the material in
Edition 2, chapter 6 where Penguin was mentioned.
In the process
it appears all mention of Penguin in edition 3
has been dropped.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
