name change

by halxd2 (Monk)
on Nov 28, 2001 at 22:58 UTC ( [id://128142]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

Please don't beat me for asking. I know it must be in a FAQ somewhere, but I've yet to find it.
Is it possible to change my monk name?
I tossed out halxd2 as a quicky, and now I'm starting to think it sounds kind of dumb,
and it might not be a very professional name if, for instance, my boss asks about my perl code.
I'd like it to be "hck".
I guess I could just drop the account and start over, but I'd hate to lose my code.

Sorry, no. We don't have a way to change handles. Yes, you can now petition one of the gods, as outlined here.

Having said that, I personally think it would best to simply "retire" (e.g. stop using it) the one you're using and create a new login. (I know of one monk that's already done this and suspect a few others have as well.)

Given the explanation offered on your home node and the fact that you've got some write-ups and time already invested, I'd just keep using the one you've got. To my mind, there's nothing wrong with one's boss knowing you have a sense of humor and/or are a bit of a geek, especially with regard to old SF movies. :-)

    --f

Update: Four and a half years after this node was originally posted, this ability was added by a generous noder. Based on gentle nudging, I decided to gently rewrite this bit of history. Normally, I prefer not to. It seemed appropriate in this case. YMMV.

Thank you for a kind response. I figured that it was unlikely.
