IP Address Management

learnedbyerror has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Most Gracious Monks, the village idiot needs you assistance, yet again

For the past 3 decades, I have created any number of spreadsheets and perl programs to manage IP address spaces - almost all fit for purpose and not generalized or really extendable. I am not engaged in a project where I would like something better. Better in this case means:

  • Defined Address Space to be Managed (i.e. 10.0.0.0/8, 192.168.0.0/16)
  • Ability to assign a sub-net
  • Ability to reserve a sub-net
  • Ability to hold a sub-net
  • Ability to see available space
  • ...

I am sure that this has already been discussed here in the Monastery or elsewhere; however, I am not able to find anything because I have not been able to find the appropriate set of keywords. All of my search efforts to date have resulted in a huge number of hits

I would appreciate any guidance/links that would allow me to stand on the shoulders of the perl giants who have preceded me on this quest!

Thanks in advance for your assistance
