    Being visited by four ghosts

.oO(I've not been visited by any ghosts since I went completely over to Linux ... and I hadn't been visited by many [ghosts] once I dropped Exploder and Lookout in favour of Firefox & Thunderbird :-D)

A user level that continues to overstate my experience :-))

I hope to find time to do some hacking, but I'm afraid my family has already tried to arrange to gatherings and wasteful diners.

I personally don't care about X-mas at all. The money spent on extras and extravagant diners could as well go to the poor and needy.

Same for me, but at the end of the day, I will like the family gatherings and the extra time spent with my family.

I personally don't care about X-mas at all. The money spent on extras and extravagant diners could as well go to the poor and needy.

I like parties and celebrations. I dislike - though - that nobody cares about the reason we celebrate or rather commemorate: the birth of Jesus Christ. Thinking about Gods graceful gift to mankind would change our giving too. Thus more money could be given to the poor and needy... Instead we spend money where we expect to get something back...

I personally hate that people tend to babble about the birth of some selfproclaimed prophet whose alleged birthday was moved to the date of the winter solstice to steal a holiday much older than their puny cult.

I dream to find a brand-new, final, complete version of Perl6 under the x-mas tree ... and then I hope to have some time for hacking ;-)
Otherwise staying with the family is also fine ;-)

Seasonal greetings to all of you!

...no my little grasshopper...... SANTA does exist..... it is actually a masquerade of SATAN.... spreading material desires amoung the innocent little children.....

gotta drink? .... i'm unhappy, wonder why? :-)

I'll try to be in two places at the same time: with my family (mother and sisters) and with my wife's family!!!

I think it's time to stay at home just with my own new family (wife and kids).

I wish I could be alone just to have some time to do the things that never seem to get done, or at the very least spend the holidays with people that cared about the meaning of goodwill instead of the usual obligatory family celebration.

I want to spend it with my dogs. Afterall, they're the ones who are always glad to see me. (That I'm the one who fills the food bowls just might have something to do with this.)

I will be spending it with family, which is good, and eating, which is very good.

    With family, certainly.

However, younger step-son will be recovering from corrective jaw surgery (starts tomorrow at 0800); I'm not sure if he'll be able travel 45 minutes to Burlington with us to see his Nana and cousins on Christmas Eve -- but I hope so.

And I hope to watch the original Scrooge, with Alistair Sim knocking it out of the park as Scrooge himself. There will certainly be a fire in the fireplace, and egg nog with rum, and there may even be some time fiddling around with computers.

Happy Holidays (and Merry Christmas, when appropriate) to you and your families.

With any luck, I'll eat a lot, and get kinda tatered off the egg nog, wearing a santa hat of course, then doze off in a warm bed or something.

Wow, there are a lot of grumpy Perlmonks this Christmas! I am not so close to my family, but I think that, even so, one can get a lot out of visits home—after all, these are the people who made us what we are, and it's a good chance to either thank or blame them, as appropriate. :-)

Anyway, eventually I decided that an intimate, personal Christmas was better than a 1500-mile trip, so I spend my Christmases (and most holidays) with my wife and my little kitty.

I'm the one who pushed for the inclusion of Miracle on 34th Street, so I'm happy to be able to give the ‘movie’ option its first vote. (Actually that, and the baking of the traditional gingersnaps—a 6-generations-old recipe—comes Christmas Eve.)

Oh, here's another one for you: Presents on Christmas Eve, midnight Christmas day, or Christmas morning? My family took almost as much pleasure in delaying the gratification as in the eventual opening of presents, so it's Christmas morning for me, despite all my wife's entreaties.

Personally, I'm not that big on Christmas, never have been (even as a kid). But other people around me do enjoy it so I try not to be too much of a killjoy. I was the one that around the age of 5 or 6 informed several friends that there was no Santa Claus. What a right little *obscene gerund* *expletive-deleted* I was :-).

However, when I was really young (up to about age 10 or so), presents were opened Christmas morning. Then we started doing one present each Christmas eve. Later on (after my grandfather died and my grandmother started coming to visit for Christmas), my mom and I would take my grandmother to a Christmas eve service and then look at lights. When we got home, we would open presents. More recently, things have been a bit screwier since my grandmother died a few years ago. I've been working on the tradition of: one year we visit my fiance's family for Christmas, one year my family and then one year just us (no traveling, no family).

      Christmas morning, definitely.

On Christmas Eve, I get to read the Polar Express and 'Twas the Night Before Christmas to our boys (who are 13 and 10 this year), although not sure when we will do that, as my wife, sons, and I are all playing Midnight Mass at our church (with a bunch of other folks). :)

Happy Holidays, and appropriate holiday greeting to everyone! (Merry Christmas, Happy (belated) Hannukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy New Year!)
