back when I used to have polls at my website, I did this (which by itself wasn't quite original|new). That's why I voted 'No' here :-)

Come on, everybody knows that this is a demonstrative pronoun that points to and identifies a noun or a pronoun that is close by, either in space or in time.

It's a new poll until the polling stops, and enough time elapses to consider the results outdated.

So I guess we'll never know, since we'll run out of computer resources before we get an answer. We'll also get a warning about 'Deep recursion on...' which is my favorite warning :)

Obvioulsy the true answer is no. Not because this is not a new poll, just because it is not a poll.

Infact, there is the basic example of a meta poll: a poll about polls... and meta polls are not polls... or are they? Gee... is more difficult than I thought... :)

Just because it's a poll about polls, doesn't mean it's not a poll. :)

I voted no, because it was an old idea to base a poll on. In a very general way the outcome of this poll is whether or not people take it as:

<sweeping generalization>
yes: Is this a different poll than was there before?
or
no: Is this idea for a poll new?
</sweeping generalization>

Whether or not the results are valuable is another matter entirely... :-D

Update: The grammar police say that the poll should probably be worded as: Is this a new poll?

Choose the definition you wish from a dictionary. Now when did newness occur?

Was it when the poll was thought up? if so all votes should be no, because it is old by the time the voters read the question.

Was it new when the voter first saw the question? If so, how long after the voter read the question would they have to vote no?

Was it new as an idea to ask a rhetorical question? Once again all votes should be no.

On the other hand if newness is defined as this being the first time the voter has seen this particular poll then all answers sould be yes.

Just a question, if there are the same number of yes answers and no answers, is it a new poll?

Only if all voters vote the first time they see the poll, which is not the case.
