Perl AI Modules and Project to Date (Dec 2022)

by ait (Hermit)
on Dec 01, 2022 at 11:33 UTC ( [id://11148476]=perlquestion: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

ait has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

The idea of this question is to gather info about any and all Perl related AI CPAN modules and well known projects to date (even if they seem defunct), and list them all in a placeholder node I've created in Cool Uses for Perl.

Just answer and discuss on this node and I will summarize on the placeholder.

TIA!

      > It is not really AI at all but

I just had a longer discussion at last Darmstadt PM if "Machine Learning" is AI. As you can see is this discussion also happening on WP.

I think this is a fruitless discussion and we should just use a less freighted word or use a flexible interpretation.

      FWIW

My 2c, if it's not "intelligence" why call it "learning" in the first place?

Point is, the concept of AI changed a lot over the history of CS. Many things which are considered trivial and "non-intelligent" today where in the realm of dreams before.

It's as useless as asking if Canadians are Americans, it depends on the definition of "American" and locality and timespan of that definition. (Roland Emmerich is one of the only real Americans anyway ... ;)

I'll toss in my $0.02 also (Canadian, so apply appropriate conversion), and agree with LanX that Machine Learning qualifies as AI. Back in days of yore I studied Expert Systems and a key component of that is the Inference Engine. It wouldn't be a stretch to include Fuzzy Logic too in my view. It may not be Ai-Da, but it's honest work.

From that, you may wish to consider Evo. I've not used anything there myself but Evo-Inference looks interesting.

Of course it depends how much work you want to put into building this reference page too! I will watch it with interest, I think it's a great idea.
