You could arrange to receive the replies in parallel,
if it is worth your time. The lesson from this thread
should be that the 'best' solution is not necesary the
most technically complete solution. I would apt for
a 3-line script that does the job most of time, than
a complex mess that I must to fix as flaws are found.
