As many of you have noticed, perlmonk.org, the Gentoo server jcwren operates as a service to Perl Monks, is down. We are not yet certain why this is. The server resides some distance from jcwren, so it is usually difficult for him to get to it quickly when there are problems. He did have a friend restart it, but it hung during the boot process.

It is possible that the hard drive is at fault, as was the case the last time the server had problems. If so, it will be covered by warranty. We do, now, have a system of offsite backups; this is not within my demense, however, so I can't say when the last backup occured.

Hopefully we'll be able to get things back to normal soon. I'll post again when there is news.

And it appears to be up again. That is, I just succeeded at making a connection to it! Yay! And for as far as I can tell, there is no data loss.

Good work, guys, and thanks once more for this wonderful service!

Update: either it was only not-down by accident, or it is just down again. Both boil down (no pun intended) to the same thing.

Update: and now the entire perlmonk.org domain seems to be synonymous for http://www.tinymicros.com/

Update: no longer. Seems to be up again :) Though since there's no new message from Petruchio, I doubt if it's any official.
