in reply to Anonymous posts for Anonymous votes

While I'm all for anonymous voting, I'm also all for acountable posting-- largely becuase, if you -- a post and then comment on it, your comment should be about the content of the post (a correction or refinment or counter-point-- whatever), in which case it is most productive to the community at large to know who gave this comment so that they can then ask the dissenting-poster to refine/expand on his/her post, as necessary. I think that it is the wrong route for us to really think of voting and posting to be related activities. The second is about stating views and the first about judging the quality of the views and their presentation. If you're overly conscious of the one while doing the other, you're going to muck it all up. (well, at least I muck things all up when I thank like a poster while voting or a voter while posting.)

Also, if you have something to say and totally need to say it anonymously, then chances are that you'll ultimately regret having said it-- so it's probably for the best that you need to take a fe seconds to log out in order to make that post anonymous. It's a sort of de facto cooling off period, and I think helps prevent the Monastary from becoming spammed up with ireful (is that a word?) posts.

The Autonomic Pilot; it's FunkyTown, babe.
