Hello fellow monks :). There are a few things that (might) need some change in the Monastery Gates' page

First: the Quests section gives a current staus for the quest. Same for Quests. In both cases only the active quests are displayed anyway so I'm not sure that the line is useful. Does this come from a template used elsewhere?

Second, in the same section, is it me or does the prompt "Offer your reply" sound a little weird? Anyway, having that link for the top node preview of the page but not the other ones might make it seem like it's missing in other places.

And lastly the PerlMonks Discussion section of the Gates is called "New Monks Discussion" which is very misleading (for a second I thought there was a section to welcome newcomers that I had never noticed).

Replies are listed 'Best First'.

    Thank you, esteemed brother!

    1. Fixed.
    2. Fixed. I have removed "Offer your reply" from the last few places where it was residing.
    3. Fixed. I have renamed all the sections of The Monastery Gates to remove the word "New", since that's not really what the Front Page is about (anymore?). I also renamed the SoPW section as "Supplications". If people have heartburn with that, let me know. Maybe I'll change it back. :-)
I reckon we are the only monastery ever to have a dungeon stuffed with 16,000 zombies.
'I also renamed the SoPW section as "Supplications". If people have heartburn with that, let me know.'

When logging in, I often have in the back of my mind: "Let's see what supplicants we have at the front gates today."

I think "Supplications" is very apt; causes me no "heartburn"; and gets my vote.

I think it's a nice addition, I just would pick one nit: "Starts at", "Ends at", and "Current Status" are on separate lines, taking up a fair amount of vertical space, I think they'd fit much better arranged horizontally.

Indeed. Maybe "$STATS: Runs from $START thru $FINISH".

Also, maybe title/hover text on the section headers:

Quests => (hmm, don't know how i'd quickly describe quests) Supplications => Perl-related discussions are found here PerlMonks Discussions => Discussions about the perlmonks site itself

Thanks! I think that "Supplications" works quite well :) . Except for the fact that this time I didn't get to learn a new word like others seem to have :'(

Never heard the word, I had to look it up. Are you sure newbies will get it?

I'm not sure which problem you are trying to solve with the rename.

Also new to me. I also had to consult the dictionary. When I read the translation "Smeekbede", my conclusion was that I was happy to have learned a new word that is perfectly in line with the PerlMonks theme.

Nobody would guess what SoPW was without looking it up. "Supplications" is consistent with the monastery theme and being a slightly less usual word makes it, IMV, more appealing.

If you applied for pmdev you would be able to see the patches from jdporter / erzuuli and fix them. :)

    > which is very misleading

That's the very nature of English, it's misleading. ;-)
