That's because you are doing it wrong. Carp is your friend:
use warnings;
use strict;
use Carp;
func(one => 'uno', two => 'dos', three => );
sub func {
croak "wrong number of arguments for func(); has to be even" if sc

my %args = @_;
print "func: one translates to $args{one} \n";
}
prints
wrong number of arguments for func(); has to be even at a.pl line 8
main::func('one', 'uno', 'two', 'dos', 'three') called at a.pl lin

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
