If your Perl script produces the wrong line endings for your OS, you may end up with the appearance of a single line of output when there are in fact many, especially when using the cat command or similar from the command line. I've run into this before.

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
