Maybe off topic, maybe not helpful but... you think maybe version controlling would help you out? I sort of use subversion as my "rsync", for the code I'm working on. Obviously this will only help if your workspace is relatively small, and ideally full of text but... anyway, TIMTOWTDI...

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
