Hello Monks,
This is a question that touches quite heavily on computing theory, but that can also be tied to Perl, semantics, and "Just Plain Cool". I was wondering if there was any way to determine how similar sections of code are. For example:
$x++;
$x = $x + 1;
$x += 1;
all do the same thing. Does there exist a way to identify functionally similar blocks of code, and if not, can anyone point me in the right direction on how to do this?
Thanks in advance!

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
