I think it's not very clear from the original post, but my assumption was that the poster was looking to solve the "is this value in this list" problem, so that's what I solved. I think this is a far more common problem than "is this list composed exclusively of this value"... don't you?

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
