When I read vroom's post about the site survey, it gave the the idea for a site suggestion box. More than the current discussion areas, it could be an area where people could submit an idea and it could be voted upon. While I realize that someone could submit an idea here, and the number of votes that it recieved would give you a vague idea of whether or not it was liked, you could have a polling area, where people submit ideas, and vote it up or down, or perhaps have a series of options that one could select from. This way, you get a real breakdown of who is for or against an idea, or what the real thoughts on that idea are, rather than just an integer with little real meaning attached to it.

User Submitted Site Feature Poll
Topic: Should we add a Monk of the Month Calendar?
()Yes
()No
()You guys are a bunch of pervs
()What if it were coed?
()Well, I suppose that it would be okay then

And then you could get a breakdown like in the polling area, and read comments under it and such.

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
  • Want more info? How to link or How to display code and escape characters are good places to start.
