I downvoted this node because you threw in what I consider to be a baseless accusation against my employer in an exaggerated guilt-by-association fashion that's bereft of facts. I can't remember the last node I downvoted, for what that's worth.

I think you have a vendetta against O'Reilly based on very shaky grounds; based on my research of copyright, the law, as practiced allows up to a year's grace period of the date of copyright registry so as to allow the copyright holder the full protection of the law!

Of course, since the company believes so strongly in Founder's Copyright that all new contracts include a page explaining our views on limited copyright terms and asking the author to agree to release the copyright after 7 or 14 years and people are slowly contacting authors of existing books to sign the same release, it doesn't really matter.

Granted, I have an interest in the success of my employer, but it also gives me access to facts I think you've ignored.

You're welcome to disagree with me, but you wanted to know why people downvote you. That's my reason. I hope it helps.

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
  • Want more info? How to link or How to display code and escape characters are good places to start.
