One way of doing this would be (Ihave fixed your XML BTW):
use XML::DOM;
my $xml =<<EX;
<type name="bla">
<display>BLA BLA</display>
<data>

FIRST

SECOND

</data>
<config>
<field id="test" name="test1">
<display>MY TEST</display>
</field>
</config>
</type>
EX
+
my $parser = new XML::DOM::Parser;
my $doc = $parser->parse($xml);
+
my $nodes = $doc->getElementsByTagName ("config");
+
foreach my $node (@{$nodes})
{
print $node->toString();
}
Of course this is not using XML::Smart - but I had issues installing it and gave up.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:

<nbsp>

<strike>

-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in

tags not

tags. In fact,

tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
