Eric Lippert of Microsoft has on his weblog a thoughtful monologue of when to use scripting languages versus compiled languages. In it, he attempts to debunk many of the anti-scripting rhetoric that floats around the net from time to time.
Some of this applies to Perl and some of it clearly does not. He's coming from a VBScript and JScript perspective as a developer of those languages, and his target audience is primarily consumers of Microsoft products. But nontheless, he makes good points. PS: Kiddies: dig far enough and you'll discover he's not a fan of Perl at all, with good reasons I suppose. Please don't start a language flame, show a little dignity willya?
