Let's say you have some html like this:
<b>I like</b> <i>squirrels!</i>.
You could use this:
$html =~ s/<[^>]*>([^<]*)<\/[^>]*>/$1/gs;
To turn it into this:
I like squirrels.
{QandAEditors note: merlyn points out by way of followup that the above regexp only works for simple HTML, and that in real life HTML, the regexp can't be counted upon to not fail. See the followup for details. }

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
<sub> <sup> <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
