Why are you double posting this thread? A lot of people here are checking the ' newest notes' link anyways, so they might not want to read double posts.
In the German Perl Forum we already figured out, that there was a wrong character in front of the subroutine call, it should be a backslash.
But that did not seem to be the whole soulution, but we were not really sure, what your problem was...

<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
