Try using stat
Change
my $fileAge = -M $fileName;
to
my $fileAge = (stat($filename))[9];
Update: Looks like it is probably the path being wrong. Apparently these commands do pretty much the same thing internally(which is probably good to know), so just ignore my original answer.

<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
