It seems to me that you are just agreeing with gmax. He is not saying that Catholics can't be curious, but rather that in Catholic influenced culture there is a strong social belief against curiosity. So he says to go over the social convention and be curious nonetheless. I don't see any reason for a religious dispute. Read again his answer to chromatic.
