Great news from Kurt DeMaagd at YAS! He was listed as the financial contact on the YAS donations page, so I sent him a note. He gave me permission to post his reply here.

Excellent idea. We do track the donations, but that donation page is
horribly out of date. Now all of the donations get grouped in with the
general YAS donations. I could change the donation system to
specifically track that. That would probably also address some of the
concerns expressed in the discussion about giving to this faceless
entity called YAS.
So, here's my counter-proposal. Give me a week to make some revisions
to our system. Then we (and you) can specifically track the progress.
Then next week we could go forward with your challenge.

Subject: perlmonks membership challenge proposal
I'd like to offer US$250 for a perlmonks donation
challenge. Originally I thought that this would be
pretty simple, but <laughs at self> the page I thought
was perlmonks donation history turned out to be
something else entirely. (Look at
http://perlmonks.org/index.pl?node_id=208057 for
the details.)
My idea was that if 10 or more people donated US$25
each to perlmonks by Oct 31, I'd donate US$250.
Is there any way you can help me do this? If it
works well, perhaps you could solicit other people
to put up other challenges.
If you aren't the right person to talk to, could
you please forward this in the right direction?
Thanks,
- Ken

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
