So do you think it would be benefitial to have an
"uber-newbies" section on PM? Some place where posts are
expected to be from the realm of the theoretical with
little or no reading or research attached? Or should the
current style of "RTFMing" uber-newbies and pointing them
to the docs and tutorials remain?
I think that Seekers of Perl Wisdom is suitable for
"uber-newbie" posts, and that the best all-around response
to those posts is a pointer to some appropriate resources
(perldoc.com comes immediately to
mind). As you say, though, sometimes a little more than
just a link to CPAN would help.
(And you are in need of more coffee. Caffeine is
a sacrament. :-)

Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
