I had a similar problem and corrected by contructing a proper message format using MIME::Lite.
$msg = MIME::Lite->new(
From =>$from,
To =>$to,
Cc =>'',
Subject =>$subject,
Data => $body
);
$msg->send();
#########################
# if you don't have sendmail on your system
# Change how messages are sent
### Do something like this in your 'main':
# MIME::Lite->send('smtp', "smtp.myisp.net", Timeout=>60);
### Now this will do the right thing:
# $msg->send;## will now use Net::SMTP as shown above

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
