Good job pointing out the importance of training and keeping you skill set up to date.
Developing a new skill set helped leave a moderately miserable job for a great one. Maintaining a skill set helped a lot of COBOL programmers land some fat contracts when people figured out that the century was going to end a few years ago. The hardest part of maintaining and building your skills is finding a reason or an excuse to use them. If you make a point of it and keep it in mind, an excuse will come to you eventually.
