Problem is: do I continue trying to understand how to use Perl 5 regexs? With my rate of progress to date, I'll just have got comfortable with them and the knowledge will be become redundant.
Yes! Don't stop or pause your learning process. It will take a long while before Perl 6 is actually here, and you'll have to use Perl 5 regexes until then. And of course, knowing Perl 5 regexes makes learning Perl 6 ones easier.
- Yes, I reinvent wheels.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
