One needs a trademark (which the foundation has) not a copyright.
Next question if there is a possible overlap of context. If two brands are sold in totally different areas like "cat food" and "sports cars" it can become difficult. Also depending on legislation. I read that a Polish lemonade named "John Lemon" had to change its name after Yoko Ono interfered. Question is if Perl it's a sufficiently big "pop star". And the possibility to smoke Perl on a PyCon shouldn't be under estimated... ;)
