Ok-

People say you have your best ideas in the shower.

I have noticed this comment ever since I have been at the Monastery, and find it funny that many ideas seem to come from within the shower. *Still.*

I doubt very much it's my best. But it's an idea, and it's about PerlMonks.

Note: Just because one may have an idea related to the Monastery, doesn't mean it needs to be said (as I have learned in times past.)

As much as I try not to post in the vein of "Hey-why-don't-we-make-Vroom-do-some-more-work-to-make-our-visits-to-PM-easier", I'm am doing so now.
Especially the part: I'm am doing so now.

First of all, I'm not sure if Vroom is really up to adding every new page idea within the past existence of the Monastery, (not that this is a bad idea persay,) but also, what does " I'm am " mean? ;-)

To me, Other encompasses various submissions - Questions, Code, Ob-fus, Discussions, Meditations, Poetry etc.

I may be wrong, but aren't these catagories, already just that, catagories in existence currently?

But there are a large amount of important posts that often get frontpaged for their value, and are then banished to the obscurity of the Old Node Wastelands.

I understand what you are getting at here, but I would think it would be easier for one to point another person in the direction of the powerful Super Search rather than create a section for the "Old Node Wastelands".

No prizes for guessing they are filed in the Do's & Don'ts category.

Funny, I wanted some prizes.

Overall, I think this is a good brainstorm, but it has already been discussed in past nodes, at least bits and pieces have been discussed ... and it hasn't been developed yet. I really don't think that these type of new sections are really necessary for the Monastery, because if a newbie really wants to learn, they should do it the way that every other one of us here has done it. By the help of other, wiser monks, that spend time answering worthwhile questions.

Because hey, my name is azatoth, and I love PerlMonks.

Hmm, is this a rationale for this whole idea?

Anyways, that's just my $0.05 on this idea. Take it with a grain of salt. I think that tye had a good reply on this idea.

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
