the idea of renaming perl5 to perl7 was on the air long ago -
http://blogs.perl.org/users/andrew_shitov/2013/02/more-on-perl-7.html
perl6 problem was recognized back then, and the consensus was "of course not!"
I think renaming is absolutely needed long ago, today is better than never, but implementation details killing Perl even more.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
