(If I were moderating PM I'd be inclined to just reap this whole thread as it currently exists, plus this comment. YMMV.)

carlosdelrey admitted yesterday on reddit to quite the whopper. Please don't go thinking he's now telling the truth. Below I explain carlos's lie, the context of Jonathan Worthington's comment (which is from Feb 2013), and the plain interpretation of it.

Over the last few days/weeks carlosdelrey has publicly made a couple accusations I considered serious.

First, that Jonathan Worthington is "abusing other people".

Then, when I said the evidence on #perl6 of the last 3 years consistently and comprehensively portrays Jonathan as being as nice as he is smart (first class honors cs degree from cambridge), carlos claimed that Moritz "scrubs the logs after the fact so there's no public record of abuse".

I don't stay on channel 24/7 and keep a personal copy of the log so I investigated to see if this was true. Ultimately carlos admitted he'd lied (or, as he puts it, was "wrong").

(So in fact yes, he indeed ought to apologize, to at least Moritz, myself, and others who may have thought he was not a liar. And not the twisted "apology" he's offered in this thread.)

So what's with the line in this thread's title? This line, from Feb 2013, is the sole angry outburst I've seen from Jonathan in my 3 years of daily #perl6 log watching.

I quoted Jonathan's line on reddit for two reasons:

First, if carlos had any integrity he would admit he was lying or provide evidence to back up his accusation about Moritz. (He admitted he was lying.)

Second, Jonathan's ALL CAPS line is the exception that proves the rule that Jonathan is a nice guy. This line was by far the angriest outburst I'd seen by him and it wasn't "abusing other people" but rather frustration in response to chromatic very publicly insulting Rakudo devs.

So what's with "Rakudo developers admitting they wanted to kill Parrot"? Imo that's carlos's imagination, channeling chromatic. Has anyone upvoting carlos bothered to read the dialog he linked to? Do they understand that Parrot was at a standstill by the time of Jonathan's comment?

to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
