Ignore this; PM is all screwed up.... Indeed. Basically, it is impossible to post a second 1st-level post once there is a first, 1st-level post. The symptoms are, as you describe. Preview looks fine. After commit, the screen shows your content, but attribution is the same as for the existing 1st-level post.
