Indeed. Basically, it is impossible to post a second 1st-level post once there is a first, 1st-level post.

The symptoms are, as you describe. Preview looks fine. After commit, the screen shows your content, but attribution is the same as for the existing 1st-level post. But revisit the thread from the root and the original 1st level post is intact, and there is no sign of the new post.

    Ah, so *that's* what it is! I retried the operation several times and was a bit concerned. I imagine that now that the symptom is clarified that the PMDevs will be able to track it down (a little) more easily.
