Ping-ing from Perl scripts

Emi has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi there !

Any idea how to see if a host/router is alive ? I mean, other than executing "/bin/ping" ;) ...

A few lines of code would be nice.

    Try Net::Ping or Net::Ping::External from CPAN
