This is why we need Perl 6. We now know what our tower should look like, and we need to build it from that design right from the start.

These are the last two paragraphs from "The Tower of Perl" article you link to and were published August 9, 2001 ... looks like the tower still did not collapse and the rewrite takes ... quite a lot of time.
