Once you feel comfortable with your code, I strongly suggest picking up a copy of Higher-Order Perl by Mark Jason Dominus. It is an excellent read and helped introduce me to some new concepts and changed my approach to coding. The author has also released the PDF version free to download on his site http://hop.perl.plover.com/book/
