This quest has ended

This quest will include any tutorials you add on regular expressions. Stuff added within the categorized Q&A section. One thing I think that would be cool is if people added snippets for golden regular expressions and then we can compile all of those onto one page.

Also this time around add a note to this node linking any nodes you made that you'd like considered for "grading" in this quest.

If none of the previous quests have grabbed you, add your ideas to Got quest ideas?. I've got a few ideas that I think would be kewl but I'm going to have to code up some things specifically for them so I'll probably wait until exams are over and I have a little bit more time to work.

vroom Since there was so little participation in this quest I'm going to give those who did participate 20 XP each.

Replies are listed 'Best First'.

I toyed with the idea of writing a tutorial for regex's but there is already a bit there. Plus there is absolutely no way I can write anything near as good as the perlre pages.

I suggest that you just link the perlre page to the tutorial page and call is something like The Definative Guide to Regular Expressions This would be particularly helpful to non-perl programmers becasue I doubt they generally think to look in the man pages for regex definitions.

I've added an example of a real world use of regexr in dynamic CGI scripts.
    Enjoy.

Between two replies to the question 'matching comments' I wrote a little routine with regex's that matches nested arbitary comments.

It turned out to be easier than I anticipated.

Basically I think this site makes a decent stab at coving regex questions, so I dont see what else we can contribute to the quest.
