Perl 6 / Rakudo and GUI Libraries

jrtayloriv has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Has any progress been made on getting any common GUI libraries (such as Tk, GTK, wxWidgets, etc.) working with Rakudo Perl 6? Has anyone gotten any partial work done on it that I could take a look at? I found something about a related Perl Foundation grant that got cancelled recently, but I couldn't find further information on it.

The IRC channel was somewhat dead when I asked there, but someone mentioned that a big problem would be that "Rakudo and Parrot's interface to C code is still being worked on" ... any other major blockers that are preventing this from working?

Is it likely that many/any of these issues are going to be worked out by the release of Rakudo * later this year?

I've got a personal/hobby project that I was considering writing in Perl 6, but I'd need to be able to use some type of standard GUI lib with it ...

I know of no bindings ready to use. You can try to build such a thing yourself with zavolaj, a foreign function interface for Rakudo. Is it likely that many/any of these issues are going to be worked out by the release of Rakudo * later this year? It is likely that they will be worked out if somebody works on them (hint, hint). (Since our pumpking is very much distracted by real-life matters, our schedule is tighter than anticipated, and we are very much in need for help). Thank you Moritz. I might be willing to do some work on this later this year, if nobody has gotten around to it by then, but I've got a lot of stuff going on in meatspace right now and have sworn off development work for a bit. Sorry to hear about pmichaud -- I hope everything works out well for him and the project. --Jesse	[reply]
