Mandatory::Introduction

I started out as a [http://java.sun.com|Java] programmer, teaching myself the language while working as a TA at [http://www.wustl.edu|my college]

I thought I was going to be a Java programmer when I graduated. Then I realized that for some reason I couldn't get a job as a Java programmer, because I couldn't find any entry level openings.
... and this was in 1999. Go figure.

Then after a series of what can only be described as disasters, I ended up in the Sillicon Valley, and I was fortunate enough to have an acquaintance at a very nice company, which is where I'm still employed.

But while I was eager to put my Java skills to work, my then-hiring manager plainly told me at my
interview:

"You know we could give a flying fsck about Object Orinted programming, right?"

... So *that* and the fact that we used Perl at the [http://www.nikki-site.com|side project] that I had just joined, I turned into a Perl programmer. The rest is history

In 2004, I for some reason decided I should live in Japan, expatriate. Whatever. It's been kind of weird.

Currently::Hacking::On

Recently I've been pretty heavily involved in
the Perl DateTime project. Here are the list of
modules that I currently maintain:

[cpan://Class::DBI::LazyInflate]

[cpan://Class::DBI::Loader]

[cpan://Class::DBI::Pg]

[cpan://Class::DBI::Plugin::DateTime]

[cpan://Class::DBI::Plugin::Senna]

[cpan://Data::Average]

[cpan://Data::FormValidator::Constraints::Japanese]

[cpan://DateTime::Format::Pg]

[cpan://DateTime::Calendar::Chinese]

[cpan://Xango]

[cpan://XML::RSS::Liberal]

[cpan://XML::RSS::LibXML]

My attempt to rebuild [http://www.nikki-site.com|Nikki-Site] as a [http://www.axkit.org|AxKit]-based website was completed in April 2003. Boy it took me a long time. I plan on re-doing it yet again. This time we have a solid RDBMS backend, so it should be much easier...

Sometimes I hack into AxKit internals, and very occasionally provide minute patches to it and related modules, such as [cpan://XML::LibXML::Common] and [cpan://Params::Validate]

Frequently::Used::Modules

[cpan://XML::LibXML|XML::LibXML]

[cpan://XML::LibXSLT|XML::LibXSLT]

[cpan://DateTime]

[cpan://Params::Validate]

[cpan://AxKit|AxKit]

[cpan://Apache|Apache]

[cpan://Storable|Storable]

[cpan://Text::Template|Text::Template]

Been::There

Lived in: Japan, Brasil ( with an 's' ), Portugal, USA ( /Mid?West/ ). However, I'm now heading back to Japan, which I've almost never lived, and certainly never since my adulthood. We'll see what's there.
