It looks like a C function (with a lot of code-like commentary). Are you sure you want to convert it to perl - instead of just compiling it using a C compiler?

I'm asking because this is the kind of question that makes me very cautious about making assumptions.

What do you mean cautious about making assumptions? Id rather just use perl unless its difficult to convert.	[reply]

I'm cautious about making assumptions because if you can't tell that some code is obviously not Perl - while asking in a Perl forum - I cannot take anything for granted.
