history of perlmonks website

I am just curious to know the history of perlmonks, like

who started it?(being here for 3+ years I could sense that as vroom, but any further info could be useful),
when it is started?,
how many users were there in the begining?
how soon it become popular?(it is certainly popular now, for all perl users this is a heavenly gift, probably one of the wonders of the world :) )
any other interesting facts about perlmonks and its history. ( I searched this site about perlmonks history which lead to no relevant nodes, that's why I am asking this question).

As for when it started, try asking Super Search for the oldest nodes. And yes, like others say, paco has sparked this site: he's asked a perl question on an empty internet site and never came back but the question was so good the site founders has built a whole perl support site around it. This is evidenced by that vroom and nate have a higher homenode id (and later joining date) than paco.	[reply]

The history of PerlMonks is a sequence of Nodes. The oldest users seem to be vroom and chromatic. vroom's node ID is 979; reading from there to here is the history so far. Of course there is more to be discovered via some sort of social engineering... ;-)	[reply]

Perhaps there is an opportunity here for some enterprising Monk to volunteer and make contact with the early node creators, Gods and those that have been here from the very beginning and document the PerlMonkGospels before it is too late and they are lost.	[reply]
