Okay, thanks.

The reason I think that applying the disable in CPAN.BAT is good idea is that (I assume) people using *nix emulators (Cygwin Strawberry etc.) where they would need the ReadLine support, will probably not invoke cpan via a .BAT file?

    Depends what comes first in the PATH. {grin}

    I find that the minimal readline support on Windows is useful enough that having it on doesn't bother me too much.

        I don't get history between cpan shell sessions, but I can hit the up-arrow to get previous lines. Crippled versus readline on *nix, but handy on occasion.
