Why do you want to avoid File::Find which has been distributed with every Perl since Perl 5.0?

He can't turn it in as his homework solution? :)

I personally believe that if that is a question, then a question mark would be in order. I also believe that if so, then at least two answers can be given: in terms respectively, of File::Find::Rule and File::Finder. So yo you should have plenty of choices!
