Cody Pendant has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Is there somewhere I could find a list of all the official Perl releases? I don't know how it works with Perl 5.8.8 for Windows, Perl 5.8.8 for Mac and so on, but is there a list/timeline for all the major releases somewhere, in which 5.8.8 and all other releases would be recorded?

perlhist contains a list of all Perl 5 releases, including dates. Differences between versions are documented in perl588delta, perl587delta etc.

Note that from the point of view of the perl 5 porters, only the source releases are official, while all other things (like ActiveState perl, the perl that ships with Debian etc.) are packaged up by third parties, and are not offical (though some of them are officially broken :-)

Somewhat related, and very useful, is Module::CoreList which will also tell you which modules shipped in each perl version.
